CLEANAIRE HRV SYSTEMS
|
 |
Temperature Solutions designs, installs and services Cleanaire Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) systems throughout the greater Wellington region. Cleanaire HRV systems can be installed in both home and commercial premises.
> What is a HRV System?
Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) systems are designed to maintain indoor air quality. This is achieved by removing stale inside air and replacing it with clean, fresh, outdoor air. As part of the system, heat/energy is transferred from the stale indoor air to the incoming outdoor air. In winter, prior to internal circulation, the outdoor air is warmed from the heat recovered from the extracted indoor air. This is all achieved through the Cleanaire air-to-air heat exchanger.
> The Benefits of a Cleanaire HRV System
-
It creates a healthy home or office with improved indoor air quality.
-
It provides continuous heat recovery, even in the cool winter months. In winter, because the Cleanaire system recovers heat from the extracted air, less heat is required to maintain a comfortable indoor environment.
-
It assists with moisture control and moisture removal. HRV systems effectively assist with moisture control and removal within the home or office. When air is extracted, HRV systems only recover heat from the indoor air. Most importantly, moisture is not transferred between the two separate air streams.
-
With effective moisture removal, it can provide a long-term solution to the damaging and costly effect of indoor moisture/condensation. Indoor moisture can cause both cosmetic and structural damage to the building.
-
It maintains a constant and controlled air flow in and out of the home/office, year-round.
-
The Cleanaire HRV ventilation system can effectively supply the required flow of outdoor air to indoor air, as specified in the NZ Building Code, Clause G4, Ventilation, Mechanical Ventilation.
-
The Cleanaire HRV system is very energy efficient. It delivers exceptional heat recovery performance. The Cleanaire system can recover as much as 90% of otherwise wasted heat from everyday household activities and paid heating, all which is used to warm the incoming fresh outdoor air. Furthermore, with the Cleanaire HRV system the ratio of heat recovered:operating costs can be up to 6:1.
-
It saves money on heating/cooling costs while offering 24-hour 7 days/week ventilation.
-
The Cleanaire fresh air ventilation system delivers fresh and warmed outdoor air into your home or office. It is a fresh air home/office ventilation system.
-
It has proven health benefits. Heat Recovery Ventilation systems have proven to be very beneficial to people suffering from asthma and other respiratory conditions. The Cleanaire HRV system extracts stale air from inside the home, to outside, and with this removes and/or reduces the concentration of moisture, odours, dust, bacteria, dust mite allergens and gases.
> How the Cleanaire HRV System Works
-
The Cleanaire Heat Recovery Ventilation system comprises two fans and an air-to-air heat exchanger. One fan brings in fresh air from outdoors, which is then circulated throughout the home or office. The second fan extracts and removes the stale, warm indoor air.
-
In winter, as the stale air is extracted, available heat is removed by the heat exchanger and the recovered heat is then transferred to ‘warm’ the fresh incoming air. In the hot summer months, the heat exchanger can work in reverse.
-
The Cleanaire HRV system operates primarily as a ventilation only system. Furthermore, it operates as a 'balanced' ventilation system, where the same amount of air goes in and out.
> Comparison of the Cleanaire HRV to Ventilation Only Systems
-
Cleanaire – delivering fresh outdoor air: The Cleanaire HRV system removes the stale moist and warmed air from the rooms and replaces this air with clean fresh outdoor air. Roof space ventilation systems are primarily designed to move air from the roof space into the living spaces below.
-
Cleanaire – for energy savings. With the more energy wasteful ‘ventilation only’ systems, these systems transfer the air from the ceiling/attic spaces and circulate this air into the rooms below. Under most winter conditions the air being introduced from the ceiling/attic space often requires reheating, thereby adding significant energy costs to the heating bill.
-
Cleanaire – no transfer of moisture from extract air. With a Heat Recovery Ventilation system moisture is not transferred between the separated extract air and incoming air. The core of the air-to-air heat exchanger of the Cleanaire HRV system is aluminium. Furthermore, a HRV system must be fitted with a condensate drain to remove extracted moisture.
-
Cleanaire - for balanced ventilation: The Cleanaire HRV system operates as a 'balanced' ventilation system, rather than other 'roof space ventilators'. These alternative ventilation systems should probably and more correctly be called ‘positive pressure ventilation systems’.
> Design Information Required
Each Cleanaire HRV system is individually designed and takes into consideration a number of factors including the respective floor space and house layout for effective air distribution.
For Temperature Solutions to design your specific HRV system, the following information is required:
-
Plans/elevations of the proposed building/home.
-
Details of your lifestyle and an understanding of your expectations of the required system’s performance.
-
The construction programme – if applicable.
-
Method of heating the home.
-
Note: For some models, sufficient ceiling/attic or under floor space is required to place the HRV unit and run ducting throughout the house.
